Vkind Studios' Breathtaking Short Film “The Next Girl” Celebrates Multiple Awards in Its First Months on the Film Festival Circuit

PHOENIX–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Vkind Studios, creators of the groundbreaking cooking competition show, Peeled, moved audiences to tears when its highly anticipated short film The Next Girl debuted last month at the immersive Vkind Experience event in Los Angeles. Since then, it has garnered multiple awards in its first two months on the film festival circuit.

The short film takes viewers on a journey from the point of view of an adolescent girl trapped in a dystopian world of horrific injustice. While it seems unthinkable that such inhumane abuse occurs in our modern society, the film’s plot twist reveals this is the case for many across the world.

“No individual desires to experience a sense of being denied their right to live their life, and yet oppression still exists,” says director Terrah Bennett Smith, an indie filmmaker known for Blueprint and After Midnight. The Next Girl sheds light on the challenges of our current times, which is why she said, “It is a story we felt an urgency to share. It was extremely gratifying to see how it impacts audiences. It leaves people talking.”

This short film does leave an impression if the mounting awards are an indication. Official Selection at 11 film festivals: The Next Girl has already won six “Best” awards and one “Finalist” designation in the narrative short film categories.

Joining Bennett Smith above the line are the film’s producers, Snowden Bishop and David Trotter, who were also producers of the Vkind Studios show, Peeled.

The visionary tour de force behind The Next Girl is its writer, Lisa DeCrescente, who was also an Executive Producer.
